Im looking for a program that will control the power settings on my laptop. I have a Dell laptop that has power settings but im looking for something a bit more advanced.
On my phone i have a app that controls the power settings, so when its fully charged it works as normal. buy when the battery bar goes down to 4 bars it dims that backlight, 3bars it dims the backlight even more and shortens the backlight time to when it goes into standby ant 2 bars it will dim the display again, turn off bluetooth, GPS, internet connection and stop me trying to open certain apps that i have defined to save power like games, and auto ends them. At 1 bar i can only make calls and send texts. And when i put it on charge they are all available again. This has been a life saver for my phone. Is there something similar i can use on my laptop, even if the features are slightly different. Without slowing down my computer just in case im out and cant charge to reduce the power consumption from the battery for a Longer life

I don't know of any software that can do what you ask but a simple thing to do is this:
Contol Panel>Display>Screen Saver>Power Schemes You can then adjust the times for how long the monitor, hard disk and standby are on before they turn off. Also various settings can be tweaked here; Contol Panel>System>Settings >Performance Options NB I don't know your O/S, all the above is for XP. Hope this helps.

I already set the power settings like that so it goes into hibernation after 20 mins and the screen cuts out after 5 mins if no one uses the laptop, But i want something that will adjust the power settings while i am using the laptop to optimize the power not for when i leave it for a few minutes to go into standby

Have you looked at Granola? http://grano.la/software/how_it_works.php
From the site "Basically, it's a dimmer switch for your computer's processor. When you're doing your taxes or writing a letter you want bright light to see what's going on and get done as fast as possible. When you've finished working you can relax, pop open a bottle of wine, and dim the lights again because your productivity needs have changed. That's how this works. Granola uses fancy algorithms to model your power needs and "brighten" or "dim" your CPU automatically. You could actually do this yourself if you wanted to – but Granola can do it hundreds of times per second," |

Dimming the screen is just one of the auto features i would like, but isnt the main part. Since im on my laptop it has 2 buttons on the F4 + F5 keys that i can easily use to dim and brighten the screen. So Granola isnt really necessary unless it could provide me with a little more then just dimming the screen, but its along the right lines. Thanks
