Check Disk Program

I’d like to find a program similar to the “Check DisK” from Windows to check and repair an external hard drive. I’d like something like Auslogic that defrags much quicker than the Windows software defrags a hard drive.

I already tried to check and repair this drive (300 GB) with Windows software and it was so slow that I had to quit.

I know there is a program called “Check Disk” but I don’t know if this is the best one.
I would prefer a portable version if possible.

I had already seen it before but this programs monitor the health status of a hard drive and I wanted a tool for checking and repairing disk errors on a hard drive.

As I couldn’t find anything in this site referring to this second kind of programs that’s why I asked it in this forum.

You might want to check out HD Tune. It is freeware.

Your alternatives to chkdsk are very limited if you are looking for freeware. (You could always try a Google search I guess.) There are a number of commercial alternatives. There is one that I absolutely swear by and it is by far the best out there. However, it is not cheap. The cost is $89 (US). If you have an interest in this commercial product, feel free to PM me for the information.

HD Tune is not freeware but time trial I'm afraid.

There is a freeware version, but it has a lot of limitations comparied to the Pro version. http://www.hdtune.com/download.html

Why don't you go to the manufacturer's web page and download the utility that they provide?
