Stitching video files together
I use a digital camera to take video of my grand kids and such, but because I can't pause it short of stopping the recording and starting again, I end up with several different videos. I would like a (preferably) free piece of software that could take those multiple file and stitch them together into one and it would be nice if I could edit them also such as delete parts etc.
my camera saves the video as .MOV files, but I have a converter that I can change the file type if necessary.
I use a Canon Powershot camera, Win 7 Pro.
Any ideas would really be appreciated.

For editing video, you can take a look at this article :
Avidemux, and VirtualDub which have been mentioned in the above article, can also be used to join the videos, apart from editing.
You can find some guides here :
There are some free software available to join videos. You can make use of them too.
AoA Video Joiner : http://www.aoamedia.com/videojoiner.htm
Free Video Joiner : http://www.freevideojoiner.com/
Easy Video Joiner : http://www.freevideojoiner.com/
You have to register Easy Video Joiner, but its free. The procedure is on the site itself.

I have tried many progs. for just joining up my HD MOV files, (off Canon 5D mark2), all with poor results so far. all have corrupted the nice sharp HD quality badly.
Some recommended file downloads were blocked by Avast as malware too!!
All I want is just to join files together, no editing, no rendering, just join.
Seems I am asking too much.
My Panasonic DVD recorder does it automatically, faster than real time, for my AVCHD files,(off my panasonic video camera) so it can't be too hard to do!
Any bright ideas from anyone please.
