Default SBIE Giveaway

Hope this is OK to post ... delete if it is not.

Found this posted on another forum...

http://pc-babble.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=63

The giveaway is a chance to win a 1 yr Sandboxie license. Worth a whirl.

Offer ends Feb 7th 2012, 12pm EST.

NB: SBIE has a free and paid version, so if you do not win a free paid license, get the freeware version. It is a superb product.

Not a very good offer IMO.. because

1. It requires you to register on their forum, and post in the thread.

2. Only 5 random people will be chosen for the licenses.

IMO its just a ploy to increase traffic to their forum. Its like a lottery.

I would rather use the free Sandboxie.

I think SBIE free is quite enough for family use, or for general users.

Sorry eyeb but I don't agree with you or Anupam. In my opinion any giveaway is a nice offer, its like a game, a contest, like a Football or Baseball game where only a few can win.

If a user dont want or can not pay for software, giveaways like this give the user a chance. Personally, its dissapointing to me to see Anupam "always" complain when people post giveaways of this kind. Thats one reason why I dont post them. To him, the only good giveaways are the ones that pass his standards. Great.

Anyway here is another SBIE giveaway, if you enter in it, you might have more chances to win a license. I know of another SBIE giveaway that will be out in a few days. When is out, I ll post it here for you, unless Anupams comment tomorrow makes me go ahhh one more time.

Take care.

Bo
In a way you're both right.

I fully accept there's no harm in these things and for those who win, it's a worthwhile exercise. That said, the moderating team have to decide if the real motive is to drive traffic to their own site which in effect is spam. We ourselves of course are not immune to such tactics, but there is a bit of a difference between 1,000 licenses for BullGuard and 5 (maybe) for Sandboxie.

Every post like this that sits here attracts more true spam in all it's forms which we then have to deal with. Ultimately it's all about striking the right balance between what we would like members to see here, and how we can deal with what else comes along because of it.

Anupam is merely expressing his opinion on that basis.

Bo, I am a moderator on this forum, and I am doing my job.

And MC has outlined for you how we work here. And you also know how we work here, because you have been long enough on the forum.

As MC said, I am expressing my opinion. Also, as a moderator of the forum, I think that it is my job to inform users of the possible pitfalls of the offers being posted. After all, the offer has been posted on a forum that I manage.

I expressed my opinion.. now it is on others to take heed of it, or not pay attention, and go ahead.

Sometimes, yes, we even remove such offers, because the motive is to get traffic on their site/forum, and nothing else.

And I am right in this regard about the present offers.

Yes, Sandboxie is a great software, and I personally would also want to avail of an offer, where it was being given for free... but how far would I go for that?

The offer that was posted, and what you posted, both are not good, "in my opinion". Because, the first one requires to register on their forum. I feel that just for contesting for mere 5 licenses, and that too by lottery, its not a good move to register on a forum, which you won't be visiting afterwards.

The offer you posted is also along the same lines. It requires users to subscribe to their email feeds, and also post in the comments. If it would just have been to post in the comments, it would have been good. But again, for mere 5 licenses, on a lottery basis, I don't think its good enough to subscribe to their feeds.

Again, this is my opinion, and also making aware of the members of this forum, of the pitfalls. Members are free to overlook my opinion, if they want to take up on the offers.

But yes, if such offers are posted from a site, which might not be worthy enough, or looks like a dubious site, we will remove such offers in order to protect our members, and also the forum from possible spam.

I hope I have made my stand clear enough.
