Thanks for this deya. I think I will download the Ashampoo Burning Studio. Some people do not like Ashampoo products, because of the emails they send. But, I think their software like Burning Studio which they offer for free are good. I have tried their other product Ashampoo Clip Finder HD, and I found it to be good too. They do not spam the inbox with a lot of emails, but they just send at regular intervals... which is tolerable, atleast for me. I just delete them, no issues. Their Burning Studio is comparable to Nero, and offered for free, it can be a good deal.
Although, I must share that I had a bad experience with Ashampoo Burning Studio 2009. I had to test a video CD, which I wanted to test on RW CD, so that I could erase it later. I burned the disc as Video CD, and finalized it. But, after that I found that the CD had been turned into a dud, no player was able to open it. So, I am afraid to use it again for that purpose. But, still I think its a software worth having.

That's a fair comment about Ashampoo and their emails, Anupam. I have a couple of their programs but just use an email account that I set up to register for that kind of thing, but to be honest I don't get bombarded with stuff from Ashampoo so I can live with that. I use Burning Studio 2009 and have to say it works well for what I use it for, although I'm not into DVD and video so I use it for backing up data, burning mp3 and music discs. I've never had a problem with it in that respect and I agree with you that it's worth having, for free.
As for Ad-Aware .. I haven't used that for a heck of a long time so I've no idea as to it's performance or effectiveness these days. So if anyone's thinking of trying it it's probably best to read some reviews before downloading it, as should be the case for any software that anyone is thinking of trying for that matter. Just looking at the V3 site page for the Ad-Aware offer I noticed that you can get Ashampoo WinOptimizer 2010 Advanced for free as well, for anyone who's interested. The link to that is here |

Ad-Aware was a popular and effective product years earlier, but it somehow lost its way, like Spybot. I would have liked to tried out new version of Ad-Aware, but it has got so much bloated, and its a hefty download. Also, I have not read much about its effectiveness in present times. I read somewhere about someone telling it was good, but I haven't seen much instances. I think I will pass for now.
Spybot is not much popular or effective these days, but still I think its worth keeping it. Once I had a PC which was badly infected. After cleaning with MBAM, and SAS, and the AV, I had tried Spybot too, and it had found stuff which all others had missed. So, still worth keeping for removing adware. It has not released a new version in a long time though. About Ashampoo, I think its worth having, if you want a free alternative to Nero. Maybe my RW CD becoming a dud was some mistake... maybe I should not have finalized the disc. I would still give Ashampoo Burner a chance.

Ok. I'm going to ask a dumb question (actually one out of ignorance).
Why do I need Ashampoo Burning Studio 10 if I have Windows 7? I've already burned a DVD with Windows 7 built-in tools. It did everything that I needed it to do. So, why do I need this program/software? (Ok, I admit that I don't burn many DVD's....)

Sometime ago, I was looking for a free burning software, with which I could burn video CD, but I was unable to find one, and I was very surprised to see that there was no such free software which offered that feature. I was able to find it in Ashampoo Burning Studio. An old version 6 is freeware, and I was able to make use of it. After that, I got version 2009 from an offer. Kyuzo, I have Ashampoo products, and I have registered for them... but I do not get the amount of emails that people talk about. I get emails only occasionally, and I think that's fair.

I get a few emails per week from Ashampoo. It's almost always prompts to buy Burning Studio. I really don't mind Ashampoo emails because their customer service personnel are very kind and efficient. I could always cancel receipt of the emails, but I've had pleasant contacts with their people and used their products in the past so it's no inconvenience. I'm currently trying WinOptimizer and like it reasonably well, so I'll keep the pipeline open.
