Default SoftMaker Office 2008

Has anyone actually tried this on 7 (specifically, Windows 7 Starter Edition as sold on netbooks)?

I'm running it on x64 W7 Ultimate without any problems at all. Should be OK too on your version but I guess you'll have to run it to find out. Opens like lightening compared to Open Office

SoftMaker Office 2008 doesn't support some Unicode characters while OpenOffice does so after I tried it on Ubuntu Linux, but when tried on XP, it appears OK.

I have replaced OpenOffice 3.0 with SoftMaker Office 2008 and i really like it. Especially the feature to install it on a usb drive and use it on up to 3 PCs is really great. For me it works on both Windows 7 Ultimate 32 Bit and 64 Bit. If some one wants to try it, I posted an offer link on the "Free Office Suite" section (SoftMaker spents 10 EURO Cents for every download).

I really like SoftMaker Office 2008, downloaded it from the Gizmo's Hot Finds link and got the email with the license straight away so thanks for that. I just have a question. I'm struggling to find anything that says it can be used on up to 3 PC's? .. in the email I received from SoftMaker it says;

"IMPORTANT: Type in the name, e-mail address and serial number EXACTLY in the way listed above as the serial number is based on your name and e-mail address."

I'm going to put it on another laptop, I have no problem in downloading it again because that means another donation to the charities but I was thinking about after the offer ends at the end of this month. If the license key and install is based on the name and email address then doesn't this mean you can use it over and over.. after the offer ends?

I think I'm being a bit dim here .. but I just don't seem to be able to find anything about using it on multiple PC's. Can anyone clarify that?

cheers

Hey, if you're in the dim queue you'll need to get behind me because I'm always getting confused with these things
I'm assuming that each time you install it will transmit your computer ID so after it's seen three different numbers that's your lot. This would also apply if you had used up your three lives and then had to reformat one of the machines, i.e. it wouldn't register. As I say, maybe I've got this all wrong but no doubt one of our more sensible "staff" such as Anupam or JoJo will step in with a correction

Incidentally, I'm finding this to be one of those "why didn't I find this before" programs and intend to use it on Linux too.

I downloaded two versions, one for Windows and the other for Linux, both using the same name and email address, and I got back the same serial number. Both installed on the same PC without issues. So I suppose so long as you keep the serial number which matches the name and email address, it should be fine and I don't see this software ask for online activation during or after installation. Further in its FAQ, it says this is "unrestricted software, can be used perpetually."

The only catch is that you need to get a serial number within the period they offered.

If you want to help them to donate more, you probably can download as many times as possible within the period. Do they say you have to use it after download?

I have downloaded the application for Windows, and I have received the key, but I haven't used it yet, so I can't offer any help in this regard.

I am still using a small hard disk, and I can't install much on it
