Great job with the review. It now looks cleaner, organized and good :)

How to hide the sidebar in SoftMaker FreeOffice 2012?

Hello m22rdy,

I notice in your review for Softmaker FreeOffice 2012 you mentioned:
Quote:

There are a couple of annoying features your hit upon opening an application. The first is the tips window which pops up automatically on the right and cannot be disabled through any options.
I recently downloaded Softmaker FreeOffice via their Load & Help 2012 charity campaign. I discovered in the menu bar I can hide the sidebar by selecting Window>Sidebar>Hide.

However, Anupam has pointed out to me there is a small difference in the file size compared to the one listed in your article (i.e. 57.5MB versus 58.7MB). I'm unable to to confirm if the same can be done in the version you tested but perhaps you can look at that again? ;)

Did I really say options are welcome ;) I meant opinions.

The developers may indeed have read my review and changed this feature (or not :o ) however, the 57.5MB install was used for my review, I can indeed verify that the new file size is 58.7MB and updated the sidebar issue (within the review) and the product database to compliment it again.

Thanks Joe / Anupam / George for quick feedback

Opps... my bad. I've just re-looked at what I said and it should be View>Sidebar>Hide ...My apologies for leading you wrong :o - must have been my dyslexia.

All minor edits updated, all currently reviewed Cloud applications now have four linking screenshots.

Merry Christmas all

Brilliant. Good job adding screenshots and logo's of the products.

These include:
  1. Apache Open Office (reviewed)
  2. Libre Office (reviewed)
  3. Kingsoft Office (reviewed)
  4. Oxygen Office (obsolete)
  5. SSuite Office (reviewed)
  6. Softmaker FreeOffice (reviewed)
  7. IBM Office Symphony (reviewed)

All done

Note, Oxygen Office is OpenOffice with an Oxygen splash screen. There is no different whatsoever that I could find, plus strangely I had to uninstall OpenOffice because it kept telling me that the version I had installed was newer (the original open office).

Plus... it took ages to find an English version because most of the distributions I found were German, and when I tried to update Oxygen Office is failed miserably.

The English version didn't contain all the additional fonts & clipart as promised and there is definitely no GUI enhancements.

Any reason why 2 versions of Kingsoft are simultaneously available on the download site?

http://www.kingsoftstore.com/download-office

Office Suite Free 2012 (8.1.0.3385) and Office Suite Free 2012 (8.1.0.3375)

edit: Moreover I'm not able to register at the site. As I hit the register button nothing really happens.

Hi George,

I have a theory on this one. According to the official download page, they have including a note at the bottom which says:

Quote:

Version 8.1.0.3385 adopts dd/mm/yyyy as default date format in Spreadsheets, while in 8.1.0.3375, the default date format is mm/dd/yyyy.
Now, the latter version uses the worlds more recognised format of day/month/year with the exception of USA, Belize, Canada, Micronesia, Palau and the Philippines who use the format month/day/year.

I reckon that the previous 8.1.0.3375 link remains making it easier for the US/Canadian's to get a quick download of the previous date system without the need to tweak the latest version.

Thoughts?

More info on country date systems: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Date_format_by_country

Plus,

There registration page is working fine (Chrome 23), here is a direct link if this helps?

Plus a screenshot so you don't think I'm pulling your leg :)

Thanks for shedding some light on the matter. I'm glad the new version doesn't have the U.S date-time format.

By the way I was not talking about the loading of the registration page, it's just that I can't get registered. After filling in form fields, and clicking Submit, nothing happens for me.
