Hi,
Ok, I'm a girl with no technical knowledge whatsoever (trying to pull on your heartstrings) and I need some help. I bought an Acer Aspire One 722 notebook about three weeks ago, and a week and a half ago I found that I when I went onto Hotmail and Facebook the pages just didnt load, however the address bar said that it had loaded properly. I have tried refreshing the pages, restarting the notebook and checking to see if they were on the restricted sites list but nothing so far has worked. Also, I have found that I cant use links and some images wont show up when I am using the internet. I've phoned my internet provider and the wireless connection is working properly. I'm at my wits end and I just dont know what to do next so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Sophie |

The first thing that I would do is clear your web browser's temporary files in case they are causing you problems.
If you are using Internet Explorer:
You can also use Disk Cleanup but that doesn't give you as much control over what is deleted. In Windows 7:
More information would be helpful:

Hi,
Thank you! I tried what you said but it didnt work So frustrating.I'm using Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 9. Most internet sites are ok, google is, but things like www.photoshop.com dont work. They seem to load properly, but when I try to click on things, nothing happens even though \I know it should. It's slowly becoming less and less sporadic between sites. Thank you again, I really really appreciate your help. |

I didn't think that it would work but it is easy to do while you answered the main questions.
If you have any questions about what I'm suggesting you do then don't hesitate to ask. Also, if it's any comfort to you, it looks like many people have had this or a similar problem so there should be a solution. I searched for "Internet Explorer 9 problem links don't work" First reset your Internet Explorer settings:
If that doesn't work then you could try what is suggested at this link. It's easy to turn the options back to what they were if they don't make any difference: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...net-explorer-9 If that doesn't work than I think that the following article is more likely to identify your problem. The only problem is that it is more technical to resolve it. You cannot open a new Internet Explorer window or nothing occurs after you click a link If it sounds like your problem then let us know. You can go down to the Resolution tab/subtitle to see what they suggest to do. Further questions:

Hi Sophie. First of all: welcome to Gizmo's .
Your problem could be caused by many problems. First we should discard browser related problems. So maybe you wanna try a different one. My suggestion is Opera http://www.opera.com/download/ due to the simplicity. It has an easy installation, no mayor problems for you. Now, if that works, you can simply keep using it (if Opera need a plugin as flashplayer, it's going to tell you and you can download just with one click). If it does not work, or you want back to default browser, you can beggin checking if Flashplayer http://get.adobe.com/es/flashplayer/ or some other plugins are needed (or a necessary update). That's for starting with the fix. If you need more support, just post.

Nothing really happened to it that should have broken it. I downloaded the updates for Internet Explorer 9 after it all started going wrong in the hope that it would help. Its completely new so it should be fine.
It asked me if I wanted to like Hotmail and Facebook to add-ons just underneath the address bar and I said ok, and it worked ok for the first couple of uses but then it started to fail and I wondered if that was what did it. I disenabled them but they are linked to my accounts and I dont know how to un-link them or if that will even help. Thanks |

Does anyone else here think this could be related to malware?

Try installing another web browser. If it works without problem then we know it is almost certainly an Internet Explorer problem. Firefox http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ Opera http://www.opera.com/download/ Chrome http://www.google.com/chrome/eula.html Safari http://www.apple.com/safari/download/
