Welcome to the forum
.Yes, switching to Firefox, or any other browser, like Google Chrome, Opera etc, is a good move, because these browsers are faster, and safer. IE9 is a good browser, but is not available for XP. You don't have to do anything special, or difficult, to start browsing with Firefox. Just download Firefox from here : http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/fx/ Install it, and start using it. Its that simple. The different browsers are all independent of each other, and can be used separately. You can even use them at same time if you want. They don't interfere with each other.

Welcome
.Nope, you don't need to uninstall IE. As said before, all these browsers can exist on the system, and they won't affect each other. Anyways, IE cannot be uninstalled completely, because it comes with Windows.
