im attempting to build my own computer and im looking for a network card, i came across one that was 10/100Mbps and another that was 2.5Gbp/s i assume the second one is faster, but doesn't it usually depend on the ISP and you internet connection speed? Theres no point having a network card thats over the top right?
Also because its going in a desktop pc rather then a laptop i toyed with the idea of installing a Wireless network card instead of Ethernet cable, Although it will give me greater flexibility of where i can place the laptop im not to sure about the connection speed compared to the wired option, or if it loses speed the further away it is place. If im paying for internet i don't want to be using less speed with a wireless network card if i can get faster speeds through a Ethernet connection. Any thoughts on this from any one? Oh and i forgot to mention the 2.5Gbp/s says it supports xp/vista/7 in 64bit so would it work on a 32bit? even though i may end up installing win7 x64 just be useful to know

Generally, with a 10/100 NIC is good enought (unless you internet speed is higher than that) You're gonna need a wireless router if your ISP does not provide you one with your internet plan. Most of time the range coverage of a standard router is enough , but you can replace original antenna with a one with higher Dbs for more coverage.

Most motherboards come with a network card/controller built-in these days so I don't personally see the need for a separate card. You could add a wireless one though to give you that additional option if required.
