Default Micro SD Card Capacity problem

I have a 2GB micro SD card(Transcend).Till testerday it was showing capacity of 1.87 GB and was working well.I deleted all files from the card and formated the card.Now it is showing only 980 MB capacity.Even after reformating and quick formating the full capacity is not shown and only 980 MB is showing.
May I get help how to recover the full capacity of 1.87GB.
I have gone to manage my computer section and in storage section the SD card Drive is showin Basic Partition 980MB only.Nothing is shown as unpartition space on the disk.
Pl help

What file system is it formatting in? One thing you might want to try is to go to a command prompt, run as administrator, type "diskpart", then "list disk" and fnd the card, type "select disk #" and replace the "#" with the one for your card, then type "clean". Be sure the right disk is selected!!! because this will wipe your partition table, then try formatting again in FAT32 or whatever you want. Put disk cluster size in default.

Dear Mr Crank,
I am really thankful to you for the help extended.
I did as per your advice and I think my 2GB microsd card is cleaned and the partion has been removed.
On my computer sceen it is showing as drive e.
In window vista plateform it fails to show any properties and it is not formating from there.
Then again I went to comand prompt and from there I typed "format e: /fs:fat32" and hit the enter key and it says
"Type of file system is Raw.
New file system is Fat32
Verifying 0M
Can not determine the number of sectors on this volume".

Please guide me what to do in this case.
I have tried puting file system as fat also but result is same.
I wait for your reply please.
Thanks again.

Hi vpg,
I have lead you to an un-initialized state, you need to partition the drive before you can fomat it, which can be done with diskpart again. So, lets try this, enter the red portions, I'm showing you what I did and the outputs after getting into diskpart, into your command prompt, making sure to change the number to fit your situation:
Code:
DISKPART> list disk

  Disk ### Status Size Free Dyn Gpt
  --------  -------------  -------  -------  ---  ---
  Disk 0    Online          111 GB  1024 KB
  Disk 1    Online          111 GB   236 MB
* Disk 2    Online         3781 MB  3781 MB

DISKPART> select disk 2

Disk 2 is now the selected disk.

DISKPART> create partition primary

DiskPart succeeded in creating the specified partition.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You should then be able to format the newly created partition. Tell me if this works, otherwise you may have a bad disk. Good luck.
Mr Crank.
I am really thankful again for guiding me.I follwed your instructions and I am successfull in fomating. the disk.
But the problem is that this disk is of 2GB capacity and it is formated for 987MB only. When I give comand as" "Diskpart" and then" list Disk" the list displays only 2 disk ei Disk 0 of 987MB and another Disk 1 of 112GB(which is my hard disk).
So it appears that almost 50% of the capacity of the sd card is lost and I am not able to recover it.
Please do reply whether I am right or there is any further possibility of recovering the balance capacity.
You have really been very helpful to me and for this I shall always remain obliged.
Thank
There is something funny going on, i am not sure how to address this, can you get HxD and tell me what the MBR looks like? Or any tool that will show you the raw data of the first sector. I wil try to help more but right now I am trying to get out of town and don't have the time to get all the links for you. What was this card for originally? Did it come pre-formatted in some way? Another thing that could prove useful, can you get me a screenshot of what disk management shows? Or, try Minitool Partition and get me a copy of the exported data that you can get to on the rightmost menu. Have you tried using any of the Partition Managers on it?
