Default Seeearch has taken over my computer

A program by the name of Seeerch has infested my computer-- I have added no new programs except for Cleanmem suggested to me by this forum. The program just suddenly came on when ever I open my Firefox browser and there is a message that it is trying to hijack and do I want to block it. I do then it takes me to a Facebook (which I do not use) login page. I have to go through the process of getting to my home page, and even though I reset the the home page back to what it should be, every time I restart I get the seeerch c**p! again.

I have tried to Google for a solution, found a page that says it has a link to an uninstall, but the link leads to a page in French that does not translate clearly and the process for uninstalling is very complicated and none of it matches with what I have on my computer.

Because the site is clearly a data collection site, I DO NOT WANT IT!

I hope someone can help me be rid of it.

Sounds like you may have accidentally installed an unwanted toolbar (a french one called Seearch!). Probably when you installed a freeware program recently.
To find the suspect, check out all the programs you have installed recently.
For example, when you installed Cleanmem, did you download it from the official site?

From what I can gather from the interweb you could try these things :-

Under Control Panel, launch "Add and Remove Programs" and look for Seearch Toolbar in the list - uninstall it if it is present.

Launch Internet Explorer, go to [tools] [internet options] [general tab] and change your home page address back to what you want, then click [apply] then [ok].

It looks like it may also install a user.js in your Firefox profile.
To navigate to your profile folder follow the instructions on this page.
Once there, delete the file named "user.js" if it is present (make sure Firefox is not running when you do this).
Now restart firefox and see if things are back to normal (you may have to reset your home page once more).

Edit: Under the circumstances, it would be advisable to also scan your PC with a couple of anti-malware programs such as MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware, HitmanPro for example - look here.

Smile Thanx Sope

I always run Malwarebites and the avast cleaner once a week. I fear I may have gotten it bundles with the cleanmem download by not being careful about the site... that is the only thing I have downloaded this past week when it started showing up. It does not show up on any of the program lists (even the add/ remove ) so I think now I may have to take off the cleanmem and reinstall it being much more careful to be sure where I get it.

The french page for uninstall mentioned the .js file, but the directions to get to it were terribly off key from what my machine actually has on it.

So again thanks, will let you know-- it really is a sticky bit of junk ware.
