external hard drive problem
my external hard drive shows connected but will not open up or auto open.was wondering how to check for a problem if i need to download a partition manager and what type?thanks for any info you can give.

Have you run disk management yet? What does it show? Right click 'MyComputer" and select 'manage', then select 'Storage---Disk', or "C:\Windows\System32\diskmgmt.msc". I use enough to pin that to my Start Menu. You may just need to assign a drive letter. If so, right click the disk/partition and proceed.
