Unhappy Problems with Mozilla Thunderbird

I've got a problem that's driving me nuts. I've tried running my
search for help in Mozilla and in Mozilla Thunderbird with no results at
all.

I'm running XP Pro + SP3 and using Thunderbird 3.1.10 for a mail client
and FireFox 4.0.1. Suddenly a couple of weeks ago, I discovered that
something (I'm not sure what program is doing it) is creating rather
large files (20+ megabytes) with very similar filie names. For instance
these two were created today: 01_06_2011_05_51_02.sdb and
01_06_2011_10_56_28.sdb. I've deciphered the filename. It is the date
and time. These .sdb files are created numerous times each day and I
can't for the life of me figure out how and why they are being created,
but I'd like to stop it. I'm hoping you can help me or at least point
me in a direction where I can get an answer. Thanks for your help on
this insane problem.

I searched for file extension .sdb on Google and while there are a
number of programs that use it, it is most often tied to an SQL
database. The problem is I have no such program installed on my
machine, nor does Thunderbird have any such program attached to it.

I then did a search in my root drive Documents and
Settings\User\Application
Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\cme877m5.default\Mail\Lo cal Folders\ in which
I found a number of folders (which coincided with folders in Thunderbird
which have subfolders) that had a .sbd extension (i.e., [Business.sbd]).

I also found the following files in C:\Documents and
Settings\User\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\9c8akkll.default

06/01/2011 09:41 AM 262,144 addons.sqlite
05/04/2011 08:01 PM 98,304 chromeappsstore.sqlite

06/01/2011 11:56 AM 1,029,120 webappsstore.sqlite

I found the following files in Directory of C:\Documents and
Settings\User\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\cme877m5.default

06/01/2011 02:59 PM 23,552 cookies.sqlite
05/05/2011 02:12 PM 10,240 downloads.sqlite
05/03/2011 05:59 PM 39,936 global-messages-db.sqlite
12/10/2009 12:35 PM 2,048 permissions.sqlite
12/10/2009 12:36 PM 11,264 signons.sqlite
09/16/2009 03:09 PM 0 urlclassifier2.sqlite

All these files are connected somehow to Mozilla but Mozilla Help offers
not one iota of help in finding out what this is and how to remove it.
I've also checked my Program files and there is no such program
installed as a standalone.

HELP? Please?

Hi gruff, welcome to the forum .

About the sqlite files, please do not remove those files, those are important. sqlite is a database engine, and it is used to store information. So, this is how Mozilla stores various information for Firefox, and Thunderbird, which are used to manage these programs.

I am sure the same goes for the .sdb files, and these might be used to store information about the mails. So, its better to let these files be, as they are.

Do you have Comodo Intermet Security installed?
Here's a thread in their forum talking about your exact experience.
