you double click or right click and open on the desktop icon or go directly to the program and try to open and the icon blinks and nothing happens. i never get an error message. i have reinstalled the program. i have run several system cleaners, reg cleaners and the like without a good result. i thought it might be avgfree, so i uninstalled that. i disabled some other anti-malware programs. no change. i am running xp3, ie6 and have used the program frequently in the past. any suggestions?

Hi rarms47, welcome to the forum
.Strange problem this. After clicking, did you look at the Task Manager, to see if the program process is running there? If yes, terminate it from there, and try again. I would suggest that you do not use registry cleaners, because they can cause more harm than solve problems, and they are really not necessary. They even might be responsible for the situation, which could have been just a minor problem. You can take a look at the Event Viewer in Control Panel, to see if there are any errors regarding DVD Shrink, which can give any clue about the problem. If you don't get any help from here, then you can try posting in their forum : http://www.dvdshrink.org/forum/index.php

i did check 'process' and did find one instance for every time i tried to start the program. i deleted all of them. i will try to look at the event viewer for a clue. that forum looks good, the others i've been directed to are all dead. thanks for the suggestions. much appreciated.

Well, seems like the program is starting, but is not able to run. An uninstallation, and a reinstallation should solve that kind of problem. I am surprised that it didn't. Try uninstalling again, then delete its folder from Program Files, and also from Documents and Settings folder... in Applicaton Data, and Local Settings folders.
Yes, that is the official forum of DVD Shrink, and its good that its working .

thanks, anupam, for your efforts. if this was easy, i would have figured it out by now. i have posted on the official site, but no responses as of last night. frankly they seem a little snarky over there and not very helpful. i might be wrong about that, we'll see. thanks again for your help. i'll post here if i get a solution.
