The Problem
-------------- When he turns the computer on all of the fans come on, the HDD light is solid but there is nothing on the screen. It will not even get to display a post message or anything, just "No signal". To try and fix the problem he has checked all cables are correctly plugged in, cleared the cmos, reseated the RAM, tried both RAM stick individualy, reseated GFX card, tried it in a different PCI-e slot, tried the same with another GFX card. Brought it to a PC repair place and they said the mobo if dead because there are no beeps, but seeing as it is in an Antec 900 which does not come with a speaker, I need some extra help. Specs incase you need em. Antec 900 Asus P5N-D q6600 with stock cooler 500GB HDD 4GB patriot ddr2 800MHz 750 watt corsair GTX 260 The comp is a few years old but was working perfectly until it arrived with him. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks in advance. |

I would agree with the pc repair guys. Sounds like the mother board is dead. The only other thing I would suggest trying is a different power supply as sometimes they begin to undervoltage and it can make the mobo do strange things.

You could purchase a mini mobo speaker (very cheap online) to allow you to hear any error beeps that may be coming from the mobo which may help with diagnosis.
Having said that, one would think that the PC repair shop would have tried that though? Presumably they also tried it with a different monitor?? |

If the fans are running and the hard disk lights are on, the "No signal" means, that nothing is being output to the monitor. Maybe try a different monitor, as Sope says. I would suggest checking connections from PC to the monitor first.
Try to listen for the hard disk sounds to see if the hard disk is indeed running. If nothing works, then you have to start from the basics... disconnect everything, and then start by putting together only the bare essentials, and then moving forward, adding other things. First in this would be to try a different power supply, as Ritho suggested.

Hmm.....a couple of other thoughts....
As you've tested 2 different graphics cards in 2 different PCI-e slots and still no signal to monitor, what about trying a different VGA/DVI cable in case the one you have is faulty? Another possibility could be BIOS settings i.e. are the correct graphics/video output settings selected? I'm not familiar with that mobo but have you tried plugging the monitor into an onboard graphics output if it has one, to see if the signal is being sent via that?? |
