Default Netbook - Assistance

Hello Everybody,

Wanted some assistance with a netbook i recently purchased for a friend, its an Acer aspire one D255 (dual processor) With 1GB /Windows 7 Starter

Having used this machine just once, i have noticed its performace isn't great and hence i wanted some assistance in upgrading netbook RAM with 2GB, secondly would appreciate if someone could recommend a free antivirus i could use that wouldn't hamper the performance of the netbook.

Any assistance would me much appreciated.

Thanks, have a good day. v

Hi, welcome to the forum .

For the RAM upgrade, I would suggest going to the vendor/shop, from where you purchased the netbook. Tell them to upgrade the RAM to 2 GB, and they should do it. I saw the specifications for the netbook model, and it comes with 1 GB, and is upgradable to 2 GB. Its best to go to the vendor.

As for a free antivirus, please have a look at this article :

I will suggest Avast free antivirus.

Microsoft Security Essentials(MSE) is very good too, but people are not satisfied with the latest version of 2.0. The people using MSE 2.0 might share their views here about it. If not, just go for Avast, which will run light, and is trouble free, with excellent protection.

I used to run Avast on my old laptop. The laptop had 1 gig of ram and a single core running at around 1.7 gig with XP SP2 and ran smooth as silk so you should be fine with Avast on your netbook.

I have a hp mini with only one gb of ram, and it is very fast. I run Fedora Linux, so that is why. Windows 7 takes one gb of ram to run minimally, so switching to a linux distro would be a good decision.
