Continuous rebooting

the computer is restarted, and then it continues rebooting. each time, the windows splash screen appears, then the screen is black, and then reboot. Over and over.

computer runs win pro SP3.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried starting it in Safe Mode? - First, start the machine and then keep tapping F8 on the keyboard so you get the options screen. Use the arrow keys to scroll and select 'Last Known Good Configuration' from the menu, hit enter and see if that works.

If that doesn't work re start and press F8 again. This time select Safe Mode. If it boots into Safe Mode try a system restore to a date when you know the machine worked properly.

Run a virus scan in Safe Mode if that fails, just to be sure.

Could be a hardware issue, the 'black screen' you mention could point to the video card.
But try the simple stuff first.
