Want to uninstall Taskkill
Hi - I am hoping someone could please tell me how to uninstall 'taskkill'. I am not sure if I can just delete the folder its in C:\Windows\system32 or does it need to be uninstalled, in which case I am at loss how to. I have googled it but I dont recognize any of the sites that are giving information, so hope someone here can help me. Thanking you

Hi dannic, welcome to the forum.
Why do you want to remove taskkill? Its part of Windows, and its just a small program of only about 70 KB. Whats the harm in letting it stay on your computer? Its a utility to kill programs from the command line.

Although this is a legitimate Windows file it can be manipulated and used by malware to terminate processes on your computer. If you suspect that your computer might be infected then please follow this guide.

Hi Anupam - Thank you for replying so quickly. I have it on my quick launch and I dont remember where I got it from. Its been there for a while and I never use it. Since it is part of windows I will leave it and just delete the shortcut. Thanks again.
Didnt see your reply Midnight Cowboy until I posted this. I dont think it is anything, just dont want it on my quick launch bar thats all. But I will check out the link you gave. thank you. |

Might be because you used it at some point of time and forgot? That can be a reason.
The original taskkill file is a part of Windows, and a very small file. However, just to be sure that its not a malware file, as MC suggested in his post... you can scan the file with your antivirus, and antispyware programs like MBAM. Or, you can also upload the file to VirusTotal. You can also take a note of the hash of the file, and then Google for the original hash, and compare the both. If they are same, you don't need to worry.
