Hi,
I just updated my Norton anti virus account, no sooner had I finished and I got an on screen message advising that my pc was trying to install roxio media manager. I don't actually use Roxio although it does appear to be part of Desktop Manager software used for my Blackberry phone. The specific problem is that no matter how many times I click cancel, this programme continues to attemp installing. I have removed Blackberry software, but the message continues to run in a continuous loop. I can't find Roxio anywhere in my programmes so I can't delete it. In addition to this, I can't run any windows updates as this Roxio thing seems to be blocking any other programmes from coming in. Can anyone help and advise how I might remove this. Please bear in mind that I am not very PC aware, so instructions will need to be simple if possible. thanks for help Longrun |

Have a read through the following forum page - forums.support.roxio.com
It may well have the answer to your problem - to begin with, personally I would maybe try the procedure advised in post #14 As with any situation like this it's advisable to make sure you have adequate backups of all your important files before you start tampering with your system. Good luck. Last edited by Sope; 20. Nov 2009 at 05:54 PM. Reason: addition |

Well, why not let it install, and then remove it using Add/Remove programs... if possible. Otherwise, you can use Revo Uninstaller... or Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to remove it fully from your PC.
It might also be worth looking at... how is it asking for installation again and again? You can have a look at the startup programs... and see if anything related to Roxio is there. You can make use of the small yet wonderful WhatInStartup program for that... which lists the programs that startup when windows boots.

I remain unconvinced about the safety of using Windows Installer CleanUp as I've read that it can easily lead to a Windows installation C***Up
![]() This warning is posted on the Softpedia page. "The Windows Installer CleanUp Utility is provided "as is" to help resolve installation problems for programs that use Microsoft Windows Installer. If you use this utility, you may have to reinstall other programs. Caution is advised." My understanding is that it can delete shared components leading to difficulties with other programs which inexperienced users may have trouble correcting. I admit to having no working knowledge of this tool myself though so if anyone else has please pitch in here.

I haven't used it myself. But yes, caution with these types of programs is always advised. Creating a system restore point, or backing up your system would be good, before trying these programs out... specially if you are not sure of what you are doing.

I've successfully used the Windows Install Clean Up Utility on a couple of occasions. It's a pretty basic tool, you just need to be certain you have selected only the offending item that you want to remove before you click the button!

I never could figure out how to get it back again short of re-installing Windows. Luckily Revo isn't x64 compatible so I can't do any damage with it on Vista and don't need anything like it for Linux anyway

@thelongrun - glad it worked out for you.
@MC - here's a screenshot of Windows Installer Clean Up Utility - ScreenShot006.jpg Basically that's all you get, you just need to select the particular app that's causing the problem from the list and click remove. As you can see, there's potential to select wrong items from the list, that's where the user needs to be careful. Also, as you say, if you remove something that another app is dependent on then things could potentially get messy! I have no idea why that "select all" button is there, maybe it would be better named "self destruct"
