In order to get a clear network connection for BitTorrent, you need to set an exception for BitTorrent in the router and the firewall.
On the router, is it possibly BEFW11S4? If so, then this is the guide. http://www.portforward.com/english/r...4/Utorrent.htm As to the Windows firewall, in BitTorrent go to Options>Preferences>Connection and tick the box to "Add Windows Firewall exception". Since BitTorrent is uTorrent with the BitTorrent name, the guide for optimizing speed in uTorrent will help as it has more current screen shots than the portforward guide and also has further information to help your speeds in BitTorrent. http://www.techsupportalert.com/cont...rent-speed.htm Last edited by keroffs; 22. Look up UPNP at utorrent site or in the gizmo article, see the pic at portforward site. Enable UPNP in router and then no more problems - unless you download and install the wrong things of course
Security risk? Well if you look for articles, old or new, claiming that you will probably succeed - and the opposite. Here is a Linksys network administrator at the bottom http://forums.linksysbycisco.com/lin...d=215252#M3076 Other people on same forum will disagree... Regardless dont make it a big worry but if you run a high risk computer = no control over incomings and installations, then all counts. Not that it is going to help you much but all counts. Major security features in latest Windows can be fixed by malware so of course also upnp http://www.upnp-hacks.org/ Such is computer life. Google network hacks and hide under bed Practically nothing is safe, irresponsible to even turn computer on! Forget about that. 50 times more important you make sure wireless traffic is encrypted properly, default login is changed with good password. Google or look for info here on how to secure router including wireless setup. Also check for upgrades to firmware in router. Can be important, could be upnp bugs, anything is possible if still running with out of the box settings/firmware. Be sure you also know version, model number not enough - better check Linksys forum http://forums.linksysbycisco.com/lin...rue&q=BEFW1154 Ive had an old Netgear router who was horrible with torrents until it got firmware upgrade no. 3 or 4. Also build-in firewall in routers can sometimes be a problem. Try on/off. |
