I need Help....
I have a herins boot cd 9.9 that allows me to partion my drive and i done this with no paroblems what so ever.. I moved my Documents onto the new parition and kept my other one for programs and the main windows software Everyhing was working fine. then i found a new software update, so i downloaded it from a safe site. cnet. then scaned it with avast. then installed it.. during the installation it froze. not the intire system just the install but my cpu display said it was at 100% and my then computer went very slow. so i shut down then system and rebooted. the install had completed and it was there and working?? But then it forgot one of my hardware and wanted to reinstall.. thinking it was a one off went to install the hardware and it done it again. froze the install and slowed the computer down. i tryed to clean the system temp files defrag virus check. check disk on all the drive and partion maleware check.. everyhthing.. and it didnt work.. so i hit system restore to a point before the partition was created.. Be optimistic i thought it would get rid of the patition.. it didnt.. so i used the cd to merge the partitions together and my files back into the main drive in my documents.. but the problem persists i still cant install any new software without it freezing the install and slowing down the computer. i was making the parition to make a simpler image disk to back up my system as the only image disk i own is 6 years old and i dont want to spend 3 hours installing the updates from microsofts websight again HELP!!! Please |

First, we won't be able to help with Hiren's Boot CD because of this statement from Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiren%27s_BootCD Further, although I am not sure, but I think partitioning the hard disk looks to be the source of the problems. Maybe the partitioning was not done right. I don't have much knowledge on that, but someone who has, will help you with it. I would like to add that there are other free partition tools that are available, which will do a good job of partitioning a hard disk. One such is Easeus Partition Master, available for free. For disk imaging too, free softwares are available. One such is Macrium Reflect Free version. Other is DriveImageXML. For help on partitioning, and imaging of hard disk, please ask. Someone knowledgeable from our team will be able to help.

Also, which software were you trying to update? Lastly, by any new software, do you mean just this software or ANY new software? |

To J.L
To clarify the part you high lighted, When the program installtion froze up on me, i thought it was just a problem with the installation that may not have downloaded properly. So rebooted and it had finished installing and worked fine. so thought it was just that installation program But something else was missing from my computer programs so i found that it was abi word downloaded it from the internet again went to install and the install froze again... so i rebooted and it had finished installing and was working.. so to make sure it went my downloads i then installed a progam (Launchy) off my usb stick which i had removed from my computer completly as i didnt use it, and the installation froze again.. so i shut down my computer removed my usb stick restarted the computer and Launchy had sucessfuly installed and was able to use without problems.. the software i was updating was for ccleaner, not a beta version just version 2.23 . its just the installation of software that freezes and then slows the computer right down.. then when i go to processes in task manager it wont end the program or shut it down so i just reboot.. To Anupam I didnt hear any of that information when i made the cd... i was on a site and it said it was a freeware cd.. So i then made it not knowing about the comercial use software on it. i thought it was all freeware that they put onto one cd.. for a any situation purpose.. Easeus Partition Master is on the cd.. as is some other freeware. If it is a problem with the partition then i think i have made stupid mistake... Instead of deleating the parition i merged it back together (i dont no if its basicly the same?) but the problem is still there and i dont no hot to solve it.. im looking for every possible solution so i dont have to reinstall my system with a very old image disk thats well out of date.. |

What version of Windows are you using?
Are you sure the installers were the ones eating up the cpu? Check with Task Manager (Click Processes>Click CPU twice, ignore System Idle Process). Also, see if anything strange is on the list (if they all seem strange to you, then forget it). Sorry, but I can't really help you on this. You'll have to wait for the experts. |

I am using windows XP sp3. I got more information that i just recently found out.. After i installed launchy and rebooted to find that it had installed. i then tryed using revo to uninstall it. but the built in uninstall wouldnt load. so i tryed using windows add and remove programs. found launchy. clicked remove, then the process bar shot up to 100% the but the uninstaller didnt load, the add and remove programs froze, and my computer went slow again. the same affect it had when instaling. the only differnece this time was when i rebooted the program was still there. i tryed it on another program with the same results. so i cannot get rid of any programs i dont want I am positive that its the installers and uninstallers that are topping out the cpu usage.. |

I would suggest that you download and install Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. It can be found at:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 It sounds to me like you have a corrupted software install. This utility can help you clean up failed installs. I think this should help you fix things. If it doesn't, I would try re-installing windows installer. Your windows installer might be corrupted. Here is a link to windows installer. Please note, I do not know if this is the correct version for your particular system or not! http://support.microsoft.com/KB/942288

Thanks for the advice i tryed them both and nothing worked.. so iv downloaded ubcd4win and macrium reflect.. im going to wipe my system. i streamed the microsoft updates onto my original boot cd. il use that to clear my system but keep it up to date. then il use ubcd4win to partition my drive. and when i have all the programs i need on a seperate partition il use macrium reflect to make a backup image. Thank you everyone for your imput.. i dont no how i screwed up this bad.. but its gotten worse. my system now takes ages to do anything at all. and avast still says theres no virus or trojan. spybot and malware bites, and superantispyware says my system is clean. but somthing is making it rot... only in safe mode everything works alright.. |

So are you going to reformat your system, and install it again? If that's what you mean by wiping the system.
If you are going to format the hard disk, and install the system again from a scratch... then why not just use the XP CD to partition the drive. You can make a primary partition, install XP on it, and then you can make other partitions from within Disk Management, when XP has been installed. You can make an image of the primary partition, after installing XP, and then installing the required updates, and the drivers, and other programs that you want to be there. Using a CD like UBCD to partition the drive is suggested, when the system is already up and running. Although, I don't know much about partitioning from a software, because I have never used it. But, if there is a simple way, why not choose it. Or, I may be misunderstanding something. I still think, a wrong partitioning was responsible for the present state of your system, but I could be wrong. Good luck .

I Also would recommend that you try Revo Uninstaller (click name to go to revo website) in addition to the cleanup utility he suggested, I use both routinely when cleaning up clients pc's after user and hardware created disasters. |
