I would like to share a few things I've learned over the last couple of years when running dos games on a Linux platform.
First DosBox works just as well on Linux as it does on Widows. Secondly you need not deal with manually setting up DosBox instead allow a front-end do the work for you. To get started install DosBox if you are using Ubuntu or Mint this can be done from your Software Manager our you can get it from DosBox Home Page Now you will want to get a front-end for DosBox. You can find different front-ends From DosBox's home page although there are only a couple you can use on a Linux platform. I would strongly suggest getting the Java based DBGL front-end go to its Home Page At the bottom of its page it will link to the Linux version for download. No installation required just unzip into a directory and run. What I like about DBGL is its ease of use. To get started create a profile for each game by clicking on add profile. Type in the name of the dos game and click on "Consult Moby Games" behold a list of matching dos games appears then pick the one that applies to you and just like that it sets all the parameters for use in DosBox. All thats needed now is to go to the far right tab called Mounting and direct DBGL to the directory holding the bat or exe file. You can also direct DBGL to the Setup file if needed. All dos games I use was obtained freely from Abandonia Enjoy ![]() I've included a screen shot of DBGL. Last edited by wdhpr; 13. Aug 2011 at 09:14 PM. Reason: Added Abandonia link |
