Mech4 can be had free.
PedalToTheMetal.com has the details oh how to get it. Pay attention to this paragraph: Update from PedalToTheMetal editors: We found this MTX app to be one of the biggest piles of junk ever. If you could get past the slow load, memory leaks and crashes, it would take days to download anything. There is a torrent file in the MTX directory, you can download it with your favorite Bittorrent app, then rename the file to .zip. As of this morning, we were unable to download the torrent from MekTek.net, most likely the website is under heavy traffic, so we we have attached it to this news post for you. I was able to download the torrent but the site is being pummeled from all the traffic you may have to keep trying. Once you have the file and and have created a folder with all the unzipped contents follow these instructions found Here I could not figure out how to install the various patches linked from: mektek.net/forums If someone has figured this out, please share the info ![]() Quote from forum: Q: Whats the proper order to install the MekPaks? A: These instructions are for a clean install, which means from scratch.[list=1][*]Install Mercs to a folder of your choice[*]If you have the Microsoft MekPaks, install them next (They are not needed or can be installed after)[*]Install the Microsoft Patch PR1 which can be found English HERE & German HERE German audio fix found here [*]Install the MekTek MekPak PR1 to 3.02a patch. English PR1 to 3.02a German PR1 to 3.02a Then install the MP3.02a to MP3.02b security patch, found here... MekPak 3.0.2b (English) MekPak 3.0.2b (German) I am still able to play the basic game without the patches and it runs smooth on winxp service pack 3. So if you have ever played the prior versions of mechwarrior you will like mech4 Enjoy ![]() Cheers Wdhpr |

Thanks for the link Kortantic.
From what I can see mechcommander is for online play. (which is not a bad thing) ![]() Its just that I am a bit older and can't compete with those young whipper snappers ![]() Where as Mech4 can play against a computer opponent and that gives me the opportunity to play the easy mode. cheers Wdhpr |

I've played it a bit. It seems to be oriented mainly around single player. It's more of a tactics/strategy than a mech simulator/piloting game. It has a campaign, and solo misions, as well as an option for online play. Having played through a couple missions it seems to have good game play, and a deal of cinematics.
