Is Malwarebytes AntiMalware really free?

Downloaded and installed Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.
The software expired and asked me to buy.

I might have downloaded a wrong version.
Downloaded it again and made sure that I was downloading the FREE version.
I was then re-directed to Cnet and the software downloaded from Cnet became
NOT FREE.

Paranoid? Does any one else have this problem?

How to download a real free version if the above said is true?

Vicky, from the home page of Malwarebytes when you click the download free link, you should be redirected to a page where you fill in your email address. The link to download the free version is sent to your email. Once you click the link in the email, you should be taken to a download page on Malwarebytes site, and as far as I can tell, the download comes directly from them.

If the above is not happening, you may be clicking on the wrong thing, or (and I hope this is not the case) some viruses have the ability to prevent you from downloading anti-virus software. They will often try to redirect urls for major antiviruses to a fake site. If you are being redirected to "cnet" are you sure it is the official cnet site?

Anyway here is a link to directly download the free version from their main server. http://shop.malwarebytes.org/lpa/342...ownload_g.html If you get redirected again, something is up.

I would suggest that you use Softpedia for downloading and not Cnet. Here is the link that I suggest that you use:

Malwarebytes Antimalware(MBAM) has both free version, and commercial version in a single setup.

Avoid downloading any software from Cnet because they have started to bundle their own download manager. For this reason, we have stopped recommending Cnet downloads on our site, and have removed them from the articles.

When you install it, it asks whether you want to have free trial or not. You can either choose it, or choose the free version. If you choose trial version, it will be in trial for a few days, and then revert back to free version.

I'm sorry, it appears your are right, Anupam. I did a search on Google, for malwarebytes and clicked their sponsored link at the very top of the results, which led to another landing page/homepage on the site. here http://shop.malwarebytes.org/lpa/342...k=malwarebytes

This will take you through the process I described and allow you to download the free version direct from their site. (or just use the link I included above as it is the same) Be sure when you install not to select the trial for the full product if you do not want to be bothered with that.

The link says the page is for a special offer.

I think the best way would be to download from the Softpedia page. This way, you don't need to fill in the email details, and you get the download directly.

Vicky, this is the link where I usually get the installer for MBAM, make sure you decline on the offer to try out the paid version if it gets offered.
