Java updates sneaking in a McAfee scanner

Java updates are being bundled with a McAfee scanner. You have to manually opt out to avoid the McAfee thing. Read Java update screens carefully and remove the check in the McAfee installation box.

Thanks for the information. Nowadays, its an increasing trend, observed even with reputed software, to sneak in things along with their setup. Its really important to pay attention to the screens while installation.

I believe Adobe Flash Player tries to sneak in Norton Scanner, or maybe it has changed to something else.

I updated flash player yesterday and it offered me a bing toolbar. I was surprised to see a similar (slightly misleading i think) type of scenario to the one you tend to see sometimes with the ask toolbar.

I always download the setup of flash player from the Adobe site. It comes without any tricky things.

So do i normally. I think i was looking for something on Softpedia or somewhere and just downloaded the flash player because i saw it. Won't be doing that again.

Oh OK. Well, unless the home site itself offers the download from a download site, I don't go to these download sites. Downloading from the home site seems safer to me.

That makes good sense. I expect that's why you chose to wait for the official FF4 download from Mozilla, but i just can't help myself sometimes. That said, i never ever use third party driver download sites, or anything that's critical to the running of my machines.
Back on topic (more or less), since i removed Java from my machine a week or two ago i've only encountered one site i wanted to use that required Java. I don't have any problem with developers bundling stuff with their software so long as i have a clear and non sneaky option to not install whatever is bundled.

Well, I believe that its better to be safe than sorry .

About Java, I have no problems keeping it on my system. I keep it updated, and space is not a problem.

Same here. As long as I know what's being bundled, and there is an option to opt-out, its good.

Looking now and what i have is Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX and Adobe Flash Player 10 Plugin. Is this what you guys have? I've not used the uninstaller, i just install over the top and haven't had any issues.
