HP Compaq Pentium 4 with Windows XP Pro version 2002
Fri, 02/06/2009 - 08:29 saratoktan

My office computer which is a HP Compaq Evo Pentium 4 with Windows v. 2002 could not upgrade my AVG Anti-Virus v.7. to version 8 (latest supported version). My computer says my windows operating system need Windows SP pack and I have downloaded service pack 1 but AVG V.8 still could not be installed.

My internet connection is always interupted. My computer shows a small icon on the lower right hand corner which says

"Intelligent wireless LAN card not exist". My problem started after my computer software was blackened by Worm It and I had to send my office computer for repair. My computer has been reformatted but problems occur bcoz there is no expert computer technician in my town. I have a friend helped me enter my internet connections again. I am connected through internet streamyx broadband through ZXDSL 831 modem from ZTE corporation, China.

My computer always freeze without notice. My searh engine is Mozilla Firefox.

Hope somebody can solve my problems. Thanks to all.

I would put Avast or another good ant-virus on on and see if that makes a difference. I have had to sort out AVG many times with my computers and others as it has created problems after updates and now I won't touch it, even after AVG8. I had your computer and do know it very well. In fact I have now two of them for the local photographic club. Have you contacted HP they are very, very helpful unlike other companies if you are having problems. I did update both of the BIOS and that made a difference to the computers and their behaviours. Mine did have Windows 2000 at first, then the hard drive went and I had XP and now they have both got Ubuntu on and uses Gimp for teaching purposes. YOu could always change your OS to Linux, No Ant-Virus etc and a more upto date system than Windows 2000. With Wine you can have some window software working with it. Which Linux? Go to Just be prepared to have a steap learning curve and endure some bugs and frustration. After a few weeks it is usually working ok. You could like I do have a dual boot having the best of both worlds

If I was still getting problems I would do a reload if it can't be resolved. Aslo ask your internet provider to look into your broadband links to ensure its not them and ask your phone network work provider as well.

Let us know how you get on or you have anymore questions

It's very difficult to work out what problems you are experiencing from your description. I would first check exactly what Operating System you are using. I don't think Windows v. 2002 exists, although I have seen this name applied to the very first release of Windows Media Center. If you are running XP, you may care to download SP2 and SP3.
If it was me, I'd reinstall your Operating System again, and then re-install any misbehaving programs.
