Day after day I get suggestions from you Gizmo. As fate would have it I often have the situation I have today. People have offered me "Free" as in beer Icons before--lots of times. Though I doubt they're as good as yours.
Your stuff is usually top drawer. So, I'm going on strike! Yup, I'm not even going to look at those wonderful Icons--because, unless you put install instructions with them I'll drool all over my keyboard, long to customize my brains out--and never be able to install a single one. You might say I'm shooting myself in the foot. I'm not! I'm saving my fist. After an hour or two trying-----Yet Again-----to install them my frustration will build, I'll go to the basement and hit the wall and it will hurt so, so bad. You see, I've finally come to my senses. Please Gizmo, please anybody who puts stuff up on the web that reqquires installation, find an inconspicuous spot on the post and either list the instructions, yes all of them, every single step, or at least an address to the instructions. There's alwaqys somebody who doesn't know "How" to apply the fruits of your wisdom, always, always, always. Thanks, ~weatherguy |

Heh.
Well, if you're referring to this article: techsupportalert.com/free-online-icon-editor.htm ...it was written and uploaded by someone like you, ie a person who perhaps didn't appreciate those issues. And of course, had no reason to include a tute in any case - they were simply flagging up a useful resource. But as you say, there is certainly room for a tute on how to use the darn things anyway. Are you referring to using them on a Windows PC to replace system icons? Or to use for custom views of folders etc? Or as website favicons maybe? There are several uses for icons and a tute for one usage won't help with another. If you let us know what you are interested in, we can maybe help more

OK.
If you're talking about replacing system icons, the easiest way to do that is to install an icon editor that has icon-replace functionality. This site has a selection, either choose one that states it can replace system icons, or try a few out. They are very small apps so it's not a chore. free-icon-editor[DOT]com I haven't checked any of these out as I already have one I'm happy with. Actually that's a review we need. Any takers?? You can also replace system icons manually but it needs a tute, and in any case a small icon editor does it painlessly. |

As has been mentioned, how to change icons depends on what you want to do with them. Here are two tutorials that I hope will give you enough details to do what you want to do with the icons. How To Change Your Icons in Windows XP How to Change Desktop Icons The process is just about the same in XP and Vista to change icons. |
