I've downloaded Free Download Manager. I can download files and direct them to a location no problem, works nicely. However in the download tab window the scheduler icons remain greyed out and will not work.
As a manual download starts the scheduler icon illuminates. By stopping the download I did manage to creat a schedule, but when it started it went on and on and on seemingly unable to stop. When it said downloaded 182% I stopped it. There is a separate tab marked "scheduler" but it doesn't seem to have the ability to direct the download to a folder of user choice, and it doesn't seem to link to the download tab. How can I get the scheduler to light up in the download tab window please. Many Thanks John |

Do check out http://jdownloader.org/, its become the default d/l manager for me. Works on all sites including RS and passes on links in FF via Flashgot and also has link grabber.

I have had downloads exceed 100% before when the server did not support download managers that make multiple connections. It seems something gets mixed up somewhere and a file does not really get broken up properly for simultaneous connections to download properly. I believe what happens instead is that the whole file is served over each connection and resembled as just one file. One very corrupt file I might add.

I used to use FDM in the past, and I have seen downloads exceeding 100%. I don't know the reason behind it, but still... the files downloaded without a problem, even if the download exceeded 100%, so no problems
![]() I now use Orbit Downloader. I find it much better, looks wise, and also because of its capability to download YouTube videos, and the likes, with ease. It is more actively developed than FDM.

Most of the time I use Gigaget just for speed. It doesn't integrate with browsers such as Chrome well but I find pasting a download link to Gigaget from the clipboard an easier task than waiting for a longer download time with some other download managers.

@ Anupam
Maybe what is happing then is the file is being downloaded multiple times but only one copy is kept. I remember have something like this "download progress ...500Mb/125Mb" I was uncertain if it would ever stop so I stopped it before it completed. If it ever happens again I will let it complete and see how big the file turns out in the end. I don't use a download manager much any more because my connection speed is so fast and reliable. I am working in Cluj, Romania and through one of the local companies here I get a full 12Mbps down/2Mbps up speed for about $12 US. (You can get double that for only $18!) My parents in the States live in a remote area and pay $39 for 512Kbps down /126Kbps up. My wife's family still uses dial-up too!

.For smaller files, which are not more than 1 MB, I do not use a download manager, because it slows down the process. Downloading without a download manager for such small files, is faster. For more than that, I have to use a download manager, because the connection here breaks for unknown reason, and the download just fails in between. With Firefox, the built-in downloader now contains the ability to pause a download, and that is really helpful.

Well Orbit downloader was my download manager of choice for a very long time. I also liked its ability to download videos off of sites like Youtube. I quit using it because I moved to Linux as my main OS. In Linux you don't really need the video type function anyway because once the file is cached in the browser you can just simply save it.
Most recently I have use the Firedownload FireFox extension, but have experience weird problems with the Linux version. I don't know if the download exceeding file size problem has happened to me since I began using Linux. Ritho
