Default 64bit Thunderbird on Windows 7 pro

Newby - please be gentle with me !!
Having problems with Thunderbird on my newly installed Windows 7 - 64 bit
I have installed the 64 bit version - but it appears impossible to set the server up using POP3 - defaults to IMAP
Which gives me an error "The current command did not succeed. The mail server responded:Error in IMAP command received by server."
My other question is WHY "SHREDDER" ?

Post 64 bit Thunderbird

Neither 64 bit Firefox or Thunderbird are usable at present.

Be aware that the current developments are NOT official Mozilla projects which perhaps partly explains the problems. 64 bit Firefox also has issues related to Flash and web site takeup of 64 bit browsers (ie lack of.) For the time being I recommend that people stick with 32 bit browser / email client.
