Please correct me if I am wrong, but the web acceleration was really done by Google themselves, not the software. The software was only a client to send requests to Google's servers where either the webpages were already prefetched or were opened for you by Google's high-speed servers, compressed and sent to you over your slower connection.
When Google discontinued the client, I believe they also discontinued the service as well. Ritho

You are correct Ritho. From what I saw of Google Accelerator, what you described seems correct. This technique is also being used by Opera now, with the feature of Opera Turbo in Opera browser.
