Default Foxit .pdf reader will install Ask toolbar or goes crippleware

Foxit Reader 3 would like you to install the Ask toolbar. If you don't, some features are disabled.

If, during the installation of Foxit Reader you un-check the option to install the Ask toolbar, you get a message that "the text viewer, text converter and typewriter tools" are no longer available.

User reports mention the search being changed and an e-bay icon added to the desktop as well.

PDFXchange Viewer might be a better option. The program size is a bit more, but its quite a good pdf reader, and its free too.

Sumatra Pdf Reader is also a good choice if you want a lightweight pdf reader.

Its sad, how good products like Foxit Reader, become adware and waste themselves.

PDF-XChanger Viewer has always been my top choice. It also allows you to annotate PDF documents without leaving watermarks. Foxit Reader is unwilling to do away with watermarks if you annotate documents.

I have read that topic on the best free pdf readers. And from there only i came to know about PDF-Xchange. I was hesistating to download it because of its big size. I was using Foxit and Sumatra until then. But after hearing about Foxit becoming an adware, i gave PDF-Xchange Viewer a try, and i must say i am quite pleased with the software .

I agree, PDF-XChange Viewer is a great app and integrates nicely into Opera, Firefox and IE7.

You can't type in Foxit anyway. If you do it watermarks the page. Just use Adobe. If you have a decent pc (Core 2 1.6GHz equivalent) it loads quickly. The newest version also seems more stable.

My vote goes to PDF-XChange Viewer as well, mainly because I mainly open pdf's with more than just text. Its quality is great.

I've been a PDF-Xchange user for two years and love it.
(and STILL waiting for the promised features "Undo" and "copy formatted text"....)
You can reduce the size a lot by deleting unused language files and also the help and pdf user manual files after you are familiar with usage.

I used UPX compression (try the AppCompacter from portableapps.com for really easy use), and my total installation is now only 4.6 mb. Everything still works fine, and I haven't noticed any slow-down from the compression.
