Default *.dd17.efw files cannot be extracted?

I download the most recent stuff to keep up to date. I have been seeing more and more files with the *.D217.efw type. I have tried changing the extension to .zip but no luck. I have contacted the software companies and have not received any response. Do you know anything about this type of file *.d217.efw? I know the .efw files can be extracted just by changing the extension. These new guys with the *.d217.efw are a dickens.

*.efw files are normally created by one of CA's security products (Computer Associates ... one of the world's largest software companies). These products are normally distributed by ISPs, rather than being sold directly to end-users. CA's products are notoriously hard to get rid off.
AN .efw file normally represents a file that has effectively been quarantined, and is often of type .zip or .rar. (so it might be worth changing the extension to .rar).

I keep saying "normally" because they can come from other sources, and sometimes it's extremely hard to offer advice without having access to the machine. I'm not completely clear what you want to do with these files, do you just want to delete them? Please tell us your OS if you want to continue with this.
