I just realized I have no idea what kind of product you are talking about from Corsair, what is it they assert is OS independent? I have a few Corsair devices that are really really OS independent, but that sure isn't too difficult for a power supply or thumb drive.

I can confirm that Paragon Backup & Recovery (Advanced) Free does have an option to create a bootable recovery CD or USB drive. Today, I made a fresh image of my laptop with base OS image, MS Office, antivirus and updates.
I then installed Paragon, created a rescue USB drive (I had a spare 16GB flash drive that I wasn't using for anything). I then booted successfully to the flash drive, and did a disk image, compressed to about 10GB, so it fit perfectly on the flash drive. The whole imaging operation took about 35 minutes. Now, for the second phase- to do a test restore on a separate hard drive!

Quick update - I installed linux (Mint, if you want to know) from live CD, and then rebooted after install. I plugged the USB flash drive in and booted to it- and have successfully restored the original Windows 7 image that I had created earlier. I'm quite pleased.
All in all, I found the Paragon software fairly easy to use, and the image seems to be working fine. The laptop successfully booted, and no errors have been reported. |
