Default System image created in Win7 shows 0 bytes

I'm trying to backup my laptop by creating a system image using 'backup and restore' in Windows 7

On finishing, I get the message that the image was created successfully, however if I right click on the image folder then properties it shows as 0 bytes - I've created the image three separate times but it's always 0 bytes.

I expect I should just go find some easy to use freeware to do the job, but can anyone explain what's going on here?

Thanks in advance

What you are seeing is usual.

To actually get the true size of the files displayed you need to navigate to the files within the WindowsImageBackup folder itself which you are not given permission to access by default.

Hi Sope, thanks - Definitely no way to access these files? No tweaks or software available to enable me to view them?

Here you go.....

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...anagement.html

Note:
The tutorial in the above link shows you how to mount the image files as virtual disks in order to extract individual files etc.
If you merely want to see how large the files are, just navigate to the appropriate VHD files within the WindowsImageBackup folder by agreeing to allowed permissions when prompted.

Hope that's what you were looking for.
