Default need help with making boot usb for imaging

I've tried nearly all of the drive imaging programs on the recommended list here and I've seem to run into same problem on all of them. I'm having problems making a boot usb so I can access the drive image so I don't have to reformat from recovery partition. It seems like I can save backup fine but when I go to make a recovery media for usb drive, on boot up it shows me an error or a blank screen with the program logo but no menus.

I'm on windows xp sp 3, and no cd drive. I also only got a recovery partition so I can't use the bart pe builder thing because no cd files... I also have no problems booting from usb with ubuntu so I don't think its a bios thing.

So anyone have any suggestions what problem might be or know a program that would work? I just want to use drive image so I have to reformat/reinstall everything when windows goes bad. Plus I think it's a good idea incase I lose the recovery partition for some reason.
