Might be nice to make an RSS feed available so we could monitor interesting forum threads in our feed readers (Google Reader in my case).
Also i didn't see a link to Gizmo Freeware RSS feeds. Finally I found a few by means of the RSS icon in the address bar. (Firefox 4 removed that icon, but I got it back with the "RSS Icon in Awesombar" extension.) jim |

Yes, I know about subscribing and email notifications. I'm suggesting that an RSS feed for forum posts would be useful - that way we could be alerted to interesting topics without having to visit the forum to find them. I keep up with several other online fora this way.

Sure. I think every Google Group and Yahoo Group has an RSS feed you can use to follow posts in the group. Here are two feed URLS:
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.c...sgs.xml?num=50 http://rss.groups.yahoo.com/group/AltCompFreeware/rss I recently subscribed to a feed for the HowToGeek forum: http://www.howtogeek.com/forum/rss/ A feed for a forum at the Infoqube (PIM program) website: http://www.sqlnotes.net/drupal5/inde.../term/2/0/feed OutlinerSoftware.com forum: http://feeds.feedburner.com/OutlinersoftwareForum It's really great to be able to keep up with various discussion forums in one place, i.e. Google Reader, without having to visit each forum separately. If I see a post that interests me, I can always click through to go to the forum site and read more, or post a reply, etc. jim |

Thanks for the links jimspoon. However, I must point out that Yahoo Groups cannot be called as forums, so that rules them out.
The forum at Outliner Software cannot be exactly called as a full fledged forum. Same about sqlnotes site. The only worth example was howtogeek forum, but their forum is not based on vBulletin... the one we use. However, as Ritho says, the RSS feature is there in vBulletin, but it has to be activated, or the module has to be installed. I will take this up with the development team, and see if they want to turn this feature on. Till then, enjoy the forums the usual way.

"Really Simple Syndication / Rich Site Summary or RDF is a site Summary, several similar forms of web syndication used by news websites and weblogs. It is good idea to provide RSS support for your forum."
"Unfortunately it is turned off by default under Vbulletin software. Here is a quick way to turn it on so that your users can get updates via RSS readers for all new forum topics." http://theos.in/internet/howto-add-vbulletin-rss-feed/ Google search for "vbulletin rss" turned up many other links as well. |

Majorgeeks.com runs their forum on Vbulletin, and I just subscribed to its RSS feed:
