I think you should consider representing dates in astronomical style on your very fine site: year first, then month, then day. American style with first the month, then the day and then the year may nowadays be the most common mode but it is the least logical. On the other hand, doing it British style (day, month, year) might be seen as anti-American. Granted that the internet is meant to be an international thing, it is really confusing to see that a review dates from, say, 9/3/2010 and not know whether this means March or September. Sometimes the difference can be important as when you read somewhere that such-and-such a program has recently improved and then you go to Gizmo's and read the review and are wondering when the review was written. Yes, I now understand your convention, but perhaps less frequent visitors don't.

That is in fact a valid point since we have visitors from all over the world. I have changed the date format on the main site reflecting the month as a string instead of a number. Let's see how that is working. Thanks for the suggestion.

You are probably right is the worst thing. People are just looking for stuff to be offended by these days. On a teacher training course i was on i was told i may no longer refer to a blackboard as such.....it now has to be a chalkboard or something. For any who don't know, a blackboard is exactly that and is used for writing on with chalk, generally in a classroom environment. Apparently referring to something by its name is racist these days. I don't get it.

Kommen Sie aus Frankfurt-am-Main ODER Frankfurt-an-der-Oder, bitte? (Just wondering. I met a retired geologist once wandering around the Wicklow mountains near Dublin. He was from Frankfurt-an-der-Oder and had a VW van - no not a Trabant combi! - fitted out with boxes and rocks for his specimens.) |

I like it George. But the what about the dates on the dynamic content, such as the new articles and such?

When things went pear shaped for me in Spain I went back to the UK for 6 months before coming here to Brazil. I'd only been away from the UK for just over a year but even then I noticed the difference as soon as I got back. Political correctness was everywhere and yet all of the things it was meant to improve were worse than when I left
![]() Anyhow, I asked for a black coffee in a local restaurant and the stoney faced waitress (was female - guess this term is not "acceptable" now either and we have to use something like "multiple gender choice food and drink transporter") glared at me and replied, "we serve it plain or with milk". I just got up and walked out. In a past life I've been shot at while trying to set up negotiating links between folks of different groups who were hell bent on annihilating each other. No one ever accused me of being racist while I was doing that. Maybe if we all wore labels it would help others to know how to address us?
