Really what I'd like to see are links to McAfee SiteAdvisor pages, as available, but I suppose that might introduce licensing and conflict of interest issues. Failing that, an MD5 checksum would help, since I'd know if I had the same file as the reviewer, and I can always Google for the SiteAdvisor page if I have the MD5.

We follow WOT for the site ratings... and we do not link to sites with bad WOT ratings. So, you can be assured from that side.
As for the MD5 checksums, I think that would be an unnecessary work for the editors to put up MD5 checksums for the softwares. We provide links to the download page of the software, along with the main software page. The MD5 checksum should be there on the download page.

Yeah, it's a valid point - but to me, the MD5 hash issue is one for the software authors, and if they provide one, well, you'll find it on their site - or on Softpedia or wherever.
In general, we don't get involved with the download side of things because we are hard pushed with what we've got. But there certainly is a good case to be made that where we host the downloads, then we should provide a security hash. I don't think it would take more than a couple of minutes to get it and publish that next to the link. Email Gizmo and hassle him, he isn't doing much at the moment
