Default Looks like hardware and general software problems are not here any more

First - I just love this site. It's like people helping people with their computers and not expecting to get a huge amount for it. Really nice stuff.

It's my go to site. Nothing else comes close.

I'm just wondering why there is no general self help for hardware and software problems anymore?

Cool Lots of...

places here to go to with your software problems. But remember, this is mainly about freeware.

Hardware is tough. Too many factors to be considered. Possibly and likely far too complicated. I remember vividly once getting into a bit of a muddle about an apparent problem with ImgBurn - a freeware burner. The issue extended to a not yet properly installed dvd drive, lots of emails exchanged, a neighbour called in, two more pc involved, problems on all of them, without communicating which one was used and caused what problem, sending of files back and forth...

As a said and repeat sorrily, hardware is tough

A couple things to remember concerning your request:

1. It is something we've discussed.
2. Remember, all of us here are volunteers. We volunteer various amounts of time to review and report on the best freeware available.
3. Many of us here are willing to help out with software questions, especially if the question relates to a program or a topic that we are very familiar with. Personally, I have received advice from other editors. But, keep in mind #2 above.
4. There are a number of sites/forums where you can receive software support; even free software support. (In fact, maybe that would be a good article to write--best free online sites for software and/or hardware support?) For example, I'm having some problems with my Avira Premium. Avira has a very active support forum where I've received tons of support and assistance. Most software programs, even some freeware, have support forums.
