No other movie has given me so clear a picture of the hardship in Japan. I know the nation brought it upon itself with aggressive expansionism leading to massive warfare. Thank God the Allies didn't make the mistake of seeking retribution or 'Grave of the Fireflies' would have been more harrowing.

I guess thats what makes the animation such a beautiful one. An extremely beautiful yet sad anime; a definite gem to watch

Another Studio Ghibli animation by one of the founders.

Yes, it's a cartoon, and the kids have eyes like saucers, but it belongs on any list of the greatest war films ever made.
