Default 6-reasons-guy-whos-fixing-your-computer-hates-you

This article would definitely be great for the "security" section of this forum except for the "humorous and (slightly) strong" language and the pictures..

That was one of the funniest things (and soooo true) that I've read in a long time! Thanks for sharing....

And, I'm sending the link to everyone in my family...including my mom! (and my work IT guys).

Hey, that's me he's writing about!

He must have hacked my computer and read my electronic journal.

But he left out some other good parts:
  • The friend who's disk need wiping as they had so much malware. She had saved her important data files in all sorts of strange places and sometimes removed the extensions and had many duplicates as she created backup copies on the same disk. Apparently, this was so she wouldn't lose her files if there was any problem because she had lots of backups, it would make it hard for hackers to find her files, and nobody would ever think to look where she'd put them.
It took me hours to find them all.
  • The friend who had dumped their non-functioning computer when she was spring cleaning. I was helping clean up her place when I glimpsed it under an old bed at the bottom of the bin. As it was only a three years old I thought I could recycle some parts. She said she didn't want it so I climbed in and had a look at it. Well, it was actually worth repairing so I took it home and gave it new OS, RAM upgrade, new CPU, new video card, larger hard disk, and a good clean.
Then the friend wanted it back because it was working - really well, actually. Even though the only things that were original were the case and the motherboard, she assumed that I would spend hundreds of dollars to fix her abandoned computer for free. After all I had always spent many hours fixing her neglected systems for free!

This one is fine:

I thought that the US Navy would be a little sensible...Why would they choose Windows NT????and what a weird bug...you divide by zero and it crashes everything

Slightly scary ones as to why you should not piss off the IT guy. Never realized that companies were this foolish:

@ Remah: just curious by "new OS" did you load a flavour of Linux and gave life to the old system?

One scenario my own tech regularly repeats is that of the dissatisfied customer, which is one of the reasons he no longer sells support packages for Windows users. He often used to respond to calls about a minor issue such as not being able to access Facebook anymore, but being redirected to YingPong.com in Korea instead Having looked at the PC, he finds it riddled with rootkits and other malware, corrupted system files after a wee bit of attempted "self-help" by the user, and browsers with more toolbars than a Christmas tree has lights.

Nothing for it of course except a re-install of Windows, so that will be 300 Reais for a "real" version please, or 30 for the one everyone has in Brazil

Result, customer tells everyone, "don't touch this guy, he lost all my files and then wanted money!"
