Definitely one lifes characters who used his celebrity status in a good way, raising all that money for various charities. Loved his cycling and running, passed him many times out on the road over the years when he used to be out training, always a cheery wave and smile for everyone, and approachable, "Now then, young man - how far you going?" A decent bloke, fitter and tougher than most, and used that to help others - charity marathons etc.

Definitely a character .... Sorry to hear that he died yesterday.

Yes me too. Shame he seemed to endure a somewhat lonely existence himself, but the joy and help he brought to others was immeasurable. He also knew his music. RIP Jim
