Question Making a web page

On my journey of being self tort on computers I'd like to think im ok and know my way around a computer. I want to take a stab at making a web page. Problem is i have never done it before and i have writers block. I don't know what to make a web page about...

I would like something a little informative, not just a useless space on the internet like some other pages, Nothing social like facebook, thats would be to advanced for me. I think the general idea is that it is helpful to people. The thing with that is I don't have any general information that people would find useful, i don't do anything that requires advertising, so im just stuck on a idea.

Once i get a idea i can start the process of trying to make my first ever web page.

Can anyone throw out some ideas?

Try to write about something that really interests you eg DIY, gardening, angling, football etc.

Once you have chosen your interesting topic research it using the er...the Internet!
If you find your subject interesting, to you, then the chances are that others will also find it of interest to them.

Give this a try: https://posterous.com/

Hope this helps you!!

Why not just start by creating a simple site based on an interest or hobby you have.
While you're doing that you'll at least make a start with learning the basic techniques involved, then if you want to get more ambitious in the future, you'll already have done the ground work for the bigger ideas that will inevitably occur to you as you progress.

Thanks for posting links, I went to weebly.com and attempted my own site. Its now published but its not very good. I really couldnt think of anything worth making a web page about....

Making a web page about my hobbies and interest, Im interested in martial arts but i can't start telling people how to fight on there. Anything else i do know isnt worth putting on a whole web page. But this is what i came up with.

http://justusefulstuff.weebly.com/

I linked to sites in the useful links section, its all i could really think of doing, i dont have anything useful to share at the moment so i thought i'd just spread the word of some places including of course GIZMO!! i like gizmo that much i linked to them twice! the main site and the forum.

Honestly though id like to see what you guys over here think

I think you've make a good foundation on which to build. It's neat, tidy and and easy on the eye...a good first effort. I would consider adding a simple graphic or motif maybe, just to add a little visual hook

Thanks for the tip i will get on it. Guess i aught to start looking for some useful stuff...
I wanted to blog my interest's but i wouldn't know where to start and the information i have is already widely known, My interests is in cars, martial arts, pool and beer. Nothing that could be of interest, that people wouldn't be easy to find elsewhere. So i thought i'd just collect information about anything interesting that not may people no about and make it easily accessible for others.

I would like to add some pictures, but i dont want to just copy and paste from other sites, or steal other peoples work.

So my friends at Gizmo feel free to visit my site and offer suggestions or if you know some useful stuff and want to share the knowledge leave a comment. It can be from anything to everything

Nothing could be further than the truth! That's plenty of interesting stuff, beer alone would have a huge amount of interest, well at least from me!!

They may be interesting things, But you can't really write anything that isn't already known to make the blog unique. And how much space could be filled with just them alone? I'd be lucky to get 5 paragraphs!

More information. For example, you have a section for links: why not take the Gizmo's one and add something more about the site? You could talk about the services offered here, the history of the site, the rising popularity of the site as demonstrated by our Alexa ranking, the diversity of people that contribute to the site, so on, etc.

Another example: take the thing relating to martial arts weapons and give some information about individual weapons, the arts they relate to and the history behind both. You've got to remember that if a website is anything, it is a repository for information. As for making it unique, well that's as much about how you present the information as it is about the information itself.

Does anyone else just come down with a case of the stupids? I can't believe i didn't do the most obvious thing, write down my own comments and experiences and explanations of what im linking to.. Duuuurrrrr

Thanks Garth

(note to self
give detailed information, but don't drone on, say the good points and bad points
slap self around the face

any other simple stuff that im probably overlooking? or other advice to give me, I always like constructive criticism.
