Both are true in reality, now.

All waste, human, animal and plant eventually recycles into the ecosystem.

Even deceased organisms of all types (humans included) goes back into
the earth or groundwater or oceans as compost, minerals or nutriants
for other lifeforms in some fashion. Nature wastes nothing and uses
everything again sooner or later.

And if something tastes funny, you've either waited too long or not long
enough to consume it. Either that or you got hold of something I've cooked.
