My sentiments on all these silly battles between Jobs and Adobe, Ellison and MS, Dell-lovers and Dell-haters, and all the rest of the lot -- Most are high on opinion and short on fact.

I would support whoever is the more open. I hate Flash mainly because of how it is being misused. The background is this: not everyone has a high-speed connection with unlimited quotas. Some sites use flash on their home page and subsidiary links are built into the flash file. So, blocking flash is not an option if one wants to get information from these sites.

Flash is still necessary imo. The latest versions supports your graphics card (even Macs!, well probably not the stable version) to some extent, thus speeding it up.

Here's an example of a site belonging to a Government of India-owned corporation, Engineers India.

Their front-page navigation is via a shockwave-flash file:
