You come across this new application and you think it must be great software because it has received many awards.
It sure looks good seeing all those seals of approval on the website. Like trophy's in the trophy case. Here is a a enlightening article. Found on DotTech BY: MikeR After myself being misguided by unscrupulous business practices. I am starting to rethink how I judge software and its worth. Fortunately we have websites like this that provide some top notch information with reviews from real life users. ![]() Free does not mean the software is any less useful than commercial and now it seems award winning software doesn't necessarily mean its good. Thanks for sharing this article wdhpr. It shows how much of shady activities are going around in the software market. I now think I will have a better look and think over any site which shows many awards to its products. These sorts of articles are an eye-opener.
Also, it shows the shady activities of IObit too, and kind of confirms that IObit were the guilty one in the MBAM issue. Since that issue, many many shady activities of IObit have been coming into light. Also surprising was the exact wordings used by two different software. We have seen that before though, with two note taking applications... don't remember their names. Internet is filled with such sorts of things.. its a shame.

I stated that time will tell on how well they handle the problem. I'm afraid they allowed their arrogance to control their action. The outcome has caused permanent damage to the brand and recovery in my opinion is doubtful. They could take a lesson from Microsoft ![]() Cheers Wdhpr |

I agree, its total shame. Really, they were doing so good, and people really liked their products, and they still do. Even after the issue, many people use their products, and like them. There was no need for them to do all this. I personally would never use their products now... specially since more and more of their shady tricks are being exposed, and also on ethical terms. It really is a shame. And they were arrogant, because they were in the wrong... and there was no other way to hide it by being arrogant. But, truth was out, and they were caught in the act badly, and now they have to pay for it.
Here is one more of their shady tricks. Read the comment on this page : http://www.freewarefiles.com/IObit-S...ram_24072.html Really, with so many of their tricks now surfacing every other day, recovery for them is next to impossible.

I don't mean to to keep piling on Iobit. But its fair to say they have made their own bed....so to speak.
Iobit 360 and Advanced System Care are off my home computers. ASC at one time was a decent bit of software. It evolved into mediocre utility of which its soul purpose was to get people to purchase the premium version. 360 just didn't live up to expectations with completely free equivalents doing a better job. Smart Defrag still resides on my computer because I think its continues to do a good job. personal opinion I also believe Smart Defrag was developed by an independent developer who designed the program while in college. Its was that persons misfortune to get swept up in a corrupt system. With all this being said I try to give the benefit of the doubt to many software developers. I believe its fair to expect people to be compensated for their dedication and countless hours of hard work. The commercial software market has to try and compete with open source projects so it seems imaginative and YES down-rite dishonest practices are employed. Comodo is in this struggle. Does one expect the full versions of their software to remain free? Although I am aware they have premium versions of their software they continue to offer free quality products to the public. Another example is Avira. It has been a favorite AV of mine for a couple of years. Even though the free versions were effective I decided to purchase the premium version because I want to see the product continue to grow and improve. This can not be done without resources. I also like the hassle free updates . There are many other products like these. (which is a good thing)Developers can showcase their products by giving them away to the public and at the same time build a solid reputation which will bare fruit in the future. Unfortunately, to some the dark-side is just too much of a temptation. Finding good software can be like spear fishing in a muddy river. In the end its up to the good people of sites like this to try and sort out the good from the bad the honest from the corrupt. Cheers Wdhpr Last edited by wdhpr; 06. Apr 2010 at 03:47 PM. |
