Nostalgia indeed. I wonder who they're marketing this at? Quad core with an Intel graphic chipset?. It'll be interesting seeing how popular (or not) this will be.

Even when the gpu is running at flat chat (while gaming) for hours in my new laptop it has no issues with overheating, so they should be able to devise something that works for the commodore. I just can't figure out why they would use intel graphics. The chances of the quad core ever running hot are virtually nil if there's no animation rendering or such like going on. It's all well and good having all that number crunching power, but what's the point if other components are substandard? weird.

I would guess that multi core machines spread out tasks to the separate processors. resulting in cooler operation. I have a single processor. Its got its own fan and a fist sized heat sink.

I agree with your assessment of the Intel graphic chip set. I have heard lots of criticisms.

Cheers

Yeah that's how i understand the multi core cpu's to work also. Something i read recently (apologies, i can't recall where or what) basically said that unless you're running "industrial" software, the chances of you running apps that require a four core cpu to get the required performance are virtually nil. No point having all that power if you can't use it, which comes back to "who are they marketing this at?"
This is a site i use for checking cpu/gpu performance: intel can usually be found at the bottom of the table. http://www.cpubenchmark.net/

Have a good one.

Ha ha, I had a commodore 64 in the 80's. I must have copied 150 games from my friends. Then they came out with 128. Ahhhh..

Think about how much times have changed and how far computers have come since then. I found a couple of old games that I played on my 64 on youtube. I couldn't believe how bad the graphics were back then. It's hard to imagine what games will look like 30yrs from now.

You're not wrong about the graphics but still, i feel lucky that i'm old enough to have seen the video game evolution from day 1. My first console was very similar to this http://www.binarydinosaurs.co.uk/Mus...dstand2000.php

My next was this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Atari2600a.JPG

Man this stuff is so antiquated now, but doesn't it make you smile?

You don't need a monitor neither a keyboard or joystick anymore, the images are projected to the air, you can carry it, move it, touch it, reduce it from the air. Something like those shown on Avatar.

I look back and think about my Amiga 1200 and feel nothing but fondness. Truly the most fun I ever had with a computer. I can still play some of my favorite games from those days thanks to dos box and and winaue.

Cheers
