Hey, PacMan reminds me of Homicide Hank, previously the top contender for the world's best boxer before PacMan came along. Hank (Henry Armstrong) held three world titles simultaneously, in the days when the divisions were one-stone (14 pounds) and therefore twice the size, and the equivalent of six weight divs now; and there were more boxers; and there were 15 rounds not 12; and there was only one world authority instead of the alphabet boys now. He still has a big claim on that all-time best title even after PacMan.
Hank was a uniquely fit man, in the true sense of the word unique. He had unlimited natural stamina and could fight round 15 exactly the same as round 1, which combined with extreme durability made him an unstoppable machine. The modern equivalents most often seen are the ex-Thai boxers who get to the top in international boxing - think Chitrlada, Samart, Galaxy, and PacMan of course. Very tough, impossible to hurt, supremely fit. PacMan looks like a Homicide Hank clone in the fitness department - supremely strong at the finish. You sure win a lot of fights that way if your chin is tough. I don't know the form as I don't follow it any longer. PacMan vs Mayweather sounds like a good fight but it looks as if PacMan is fighting above his weight as he's run out of opponents? Shame really, do that enough times and you lose. Pacquiao is a great fighter for our time and I believe that he would easily beat
Mayweather if they ever get into a ring. Now, if he had fought people like Duran or Leonard we would not be talking about him. I can think of 8 to 10 fighters from 1980 to 1995 that would have easily beat him. Julio Cesar Chavez like Leonard or Duran would have won by knockout, easily. Bo |
