Sorry if this seems political but sometimes the political is personal? Imho this issue could lead to an ongoing commercialisation of the internet that, personally, I don't welcome. But hey, what do others think?
KEEP LINKING FREE AND UNFETTERED, DEMANDS NEW INTERNET FREEDOM CAMPAIGN A campaign to ensure that linking remains free to all has been launched today. The Right2Link campaign (www.right2link.org) comes as the Digital Economy Bill and other market developments appear to be threatening the information-sharing freedoms afforded by the World Wide Web... http://www.right2link.org/press161209/ Quote: NEWSNOW APPLAUDS MELTWATER LEGAL ACTION AGAINST NEWSPAPER LICENSING AGENCY (NLA) NewsNow applauds Meltwater’s challenge to the legal basis of the NLA’s licensing scheme, in particular, the NLA's claim to be able to license hyperlinking, which both NewsNow and Meltwater believe has no basis in English law... http://www.sourcewire.com/releases/r...hp?relid=52621 |

Yes but in the event all news networks like BBC, CNN, etc. start doing it then what? How will news be circulated? I use Google News and just read up on what's interesting. This kind of move will stop Google from indexing and pointing to links.

For me, access to news should be a common right? Regardless of your ability to pay. It's good democracy!?
Although Newscorp, Fox + Murdoch are very powerful, to the extent that Govts court him. Is he a bit of a dinosaur? Murdoch is well known to be a technophobe (Mr Burns reading his tickertape comes to mind). I'm worried about this site too: http://wikileaks.org/ |
